Resident Profile: Audene Phillips

Audene Phillips was born on the antique bed pictured below along with three of her four siblings. They were raised on a farm on Sulphur Springs Road here in Murfreesboro. She attended Central High School and MTSU. After college, she worked for UT Agriculture Services and then in 1963, she returned to MTSU where she served as the Executive Secretary for five Presidents. Mrs. Phillips retired in 1991.

When she was 47, she married Charles "Whicher" Phillips in 1977. Which was the manager and director of the MTSU Bookstore for 37 years, which was later named for him: MTSU Phillips Bookstore.

Audene has been a lifelong member of Bethel United Methodist Church. She has enjoyed traveling and fondly reminisces on her favorite two-week vacation to the Great River of Europe. Still very active, Mrs. Phillips enjoys all sports, but is particularly fond of watching the MTSU Blue Raiders and Tennessee Volunteers basketball teams.

After coming to AdamsPlace for rehab due to a fall in December 2016, she decided to sell her condo and call AdamsPlace "home." Mrs. Phillips recalls that the transition to her new life was made easy by the wonderful staff and residents throughout AdamsPlace.

With her positive outlook and the interest she takes in everyone's lives, Mrs. Phillips quickly became a favorite for everyone. She enjoys the activities and entertainment that AdamsPlace has to offer and participates in an exercise class every morning. Mrs. Phillips is blessed to have many regular visitors, especially her sister and dearest friend Susan Boney. Turning 90 this coming September, Mrs. Phillips smiles and says, "I can't say enough good things about AdamsPlace." And by the looks of it, the people of AdamsPlace can't say enough good things about her!
